  12. The 'Rationale for American National Standard for Information Systems
  13. -- Programming Language -- C' is not a part of the ANSI X3.159-1989
  14. document, assuming I interpret correctly a statement in the Rationale
  15. at the bottom of page 4: "this rationale is not part of the Standard."
  16. Also, ANSI (www.ansi.org) does not sell the Rationale as one of their
  17. documents.

  19. The Rationale is an important document relevant to a book I am writing
  20. regarding C, and I would like to add this document to the References
  21. section.

  23. Unfortunately, the Rationale, which is available at several Internet
  24. sites (I don't recall from where I got my copy: it was months ago),
  25. has no self-description info other than its title. More specifically,
  26. there are no authors (other than the 'Committee' as implied by the
  27. text), no year (although 1989 is probably a good guess), and no
  28. publisher (so how can one reliably get a copy: Web addresses, in
  29. general, are too fragile and transient).

  31. How does one reference this document???

  33. I want to give credit where credit is due -- and provide what I
  34. consider a valuable reference -- but at the moment that seems
  35. difficult in the case of the Rationale.
